About us

Good rooms are built slowly.

smallcozyhome.store is a small independent publication about interiors — written for people decorating real homes on real budgets, one decision at a time.

A sunlit living room with linen seating and warm wood

Why we started

Most interiors writing falls into one of two traps. It is either a catalogue — a grid of products with affiliate links and no argument — or it is aspirational to the point of uselessness, photographed in a house nobody actually lives in.

We wanted a third thing: writing that explains why a room works. The ratio of colour to neutral. The eight inches of wall you should leave empty. The reason your shelves look cluttered even though you own less than your neighbour.

Principles travel. Once you understand why a grouping of three reads as intentional and a grouping of seven reads as clutter, you can apply that in any room, in any house, at any budget. That is what we are trying to teach.

How we work

Every project is done before it is published. If we say a DIY planter takes three hours and costs eight dollars, it is because we made one and kept the receipts. When something does not work, we say so — the troubleshooting sections in our guides are written from genuine mistakes.

We accept affiliate commissions and display advertising, and we are transparent about both. Nothing is recommended because it pays better. Read ourfull disclosure policy for the details.

What we believe

01

Buy less, choose better

One well-made chair beats four disposable ones. We cost projects honestly and tell you when the cheap version is genuinely fine.

02

Rooms are for living in

Every room we feature has to survive Tuesday night — homework, muddy shoes, a dog. Styling that only works for a photograph is not styling.

03

Show the method

Not just what a room looks like, but the ratio, the spacing, the reason it works. Principles travel between homes; shopping lists do not.
